I wonder if this software making any in roads into the aviation market? It appears to be very strong in automotive area but most aviation companies I know are using NASTRAN.

So far as I am aware most people do not use Hyperworks FEA solver. We use Hypermesh and hypergraph and so on for pre and postprocessing, but still use Nastran as our default FEA solver.

Thanks for your input Greg. That's interesting... I understood that the Altair FEA solvers Radioss and Optistuct were widely used by many automotive companies.

Does anyone know if any Aviation Companies use Altair's solvers?

We do use Optistruct, when we are running that sort of optimisation, but that is not often. Maybe our Tier one suppliers use it more, but I don't get the impression that they do.

Must admit I don't know about RADIOSS, if I remember I'll ask the next node-pusher I see.

OptiStruct is widely used by Boeing and Airbus and their suppliers for weight reduction using topology optimization.

RADIOSS is Altair's analysis code that contains linear analysis using NASTRAN input data and also explicit analysis using an Altair format.

RADIOSS has replaced NASTRAN at Genearl Motors and other Auto OEM's because it is more accurate (no K6ROT fudge factors and RBE3 errors) and less buggy than NASTRAN.

Thanks for the great input Harry and Greg. We're just implemented it here as well for our consulting business. The pricing structure for Altair's package was much more attractive for our small business. I knew that the automotive industry was using it but found it odd not to see it in aviation. I am glad to hear it's being used at the big two...
