hi to all i understand that you need to based on experience and information supplied by belt manufacturer on selecting the correct pulley diameters but is there any other ways and means to determine if u already know the speed ratio of the belt drive and the belt section.

If you know the ratio of the two
pulleys than the pitch diameters would
be in the same proportion. The only trouble
is it that depending on the cross sectio and
style of the belt, the actual pitch diameters
may be outside the pulley. Is it a v belt syle
pulley or cogged? I think regardless of the
style the basic od of the pulleys would be
the pitch diameter plus some value or it could
be the pitch diameter minus some value. Does this
make sense to you?

I don't think they have the information on their website, but Stock Drive Products ( does have a free catalog which contains a 100 page technical section on pulleys.

SDP-SI has a calculator that is pretty helpful. You might have to fine-tune the results depending on your specific application.
