Just wondered how you guys check mass/weight in ETABS model. And more to the point, how you do define the mass sources, "specified mass + self"??. the reason i ask is that the model i am dealing with at present has area mass representing sdl+some LL assigned to the floor. I thought it would be better to use "live load + self" so that the ETABS model can be use for gravity action as well.
The second question is about how to check mass in ETABS. i found that "diaphragms mass" is usually a bit less than " assembled mass" for some reason. I suspect this is due to the points around the opening on wall(between levels) are not attached to diaphragms? I know that new ETABS allows rigid diaphragms in different levels tho.
I just wanted to know which mass(diaphragms or assembled?) is use for eigen vibration analysis. because we can check how many % is contributing to each mode, but ETABS does not report actual mode mass in absolute value.
Any suggestion/comments would be appreciated.
