"... the homeowners had sent out a letter to let them know they expected about 150 guests at a large, religious family gathering scheduled from 10am to 2pm that was to include music and dancing."

While I have nothing against Jainism, I suspect that since this incident took place in Texas, that many of the neighbors probably didn't cotton much to the idea of 'idol worshipers' living in their midsts and perhaps even saw this as God's will, as was described in Exodus 32:15-20, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai and found the Israelites worshiping a 'Golden Calf'.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

I guess 150 people created more than 40 psf (times the safety factor).

If the floor was even that strong.

JEA - 150 people, dancing to the same music.

John - Houston's a pretty open, multicultural city. More so than say - Baltimore.

Did they find out the cause? With 150 dancing people in a second floor above a garage (assumed to be open?), I wonder if the garage racked laterally when everyone shifted at the same time.
