I have a jet pump for a boat I am designing and am having issues with a pinch point before the impeller. I was thinking of putting a gentle curve in the side walls of the pump housing to addres this issue. Are ther problems with doing this with high speed water(100+ mph)

Taper the intake gently in to the pinch point, and then back out again. The transition between the two should be smooth. If you have sufficiently fine taper the losses will be small. What reduction of area is there at the pinch point? Do your tubes have to remain circular?
