hidden lines in components 1

Is there a way to make certain components hidden lines invisable in a drawing view, sort of like making components not hatch in a section view. I want to see the hidden lines in a view but not the hidden lines in some of the components. I also don't want to do a view dependent edit on these and I have removed as much of the hidden objects from the components but there are still lots of hidden lines. Using NX4.

What you're looking to do is called "Define Render Sets in View". You open the drafting application and go to Preferences>Drafting you'll find it under the "View" tab, at the bottom. I'll let you read the manual or hit <F1> for help once you progressed thus far, but post back if you really struggle.

Having defined that certain components or individual solids will be rendered differently in order to use the definition you select your view and edit the "Style" (right mouse button). Under the General Tab you'll find "Define Render Sets in View" where you can add the render sets from the bottom window to the top. Again there is help available on this and I suspect you'll only need me to get you started.

That worked like a charm. I knew there had to be a way to do that. I seems that UG could make this a lot easier though.

Yes I agree. Unless somebody could tell me that there is anything else that you can use "Define Render sets in View" for I cannot see why the operation exists in two parts. In other words why doesn't it all come under the View Style menu thus being more easily found and used by everyone.

As mentioned, "Define Render Sets in View" can be used to hide a set of solids in several views.
You can also do - View dependent edit (select solid bodies to hide), but it will be tedious if u require it in number of views.

You can select an entire solid to erase using view dependent editing. But you can't an pick an entire solid to have a different line type using view dependent edit with a single selection step. Using render sets is the best and practically the only way that I know to do this well. By selecting a solid you can vary the display of hidden lines, visible lines or both in ways that would be more than just a bit tedious using visible in view.
