Hi all,

i am working on the assignment for the PSV sizing? since i am new to this , i have done sizing for the PSVS for the reactor shell but i am stuck for sizing the PSV for the reactor jackets & limpet coils? Weather i should consider the TSV or PSV? & also how should i proceed for the calculation steps ? are there any guidelines for sizing of the PSV for the jackets or limpet coils of the reactor? Kindly help me out on this query.

You have basically already asked this question against your original post in the Chemical Engineering forum on 4 June 2021 - thread135-483815

You were given some leads into Pressure-relief Valves there.

You need to be familiar with the design code of your vessel (eg. ASME VIII) and also pressure relief scenarios and systems as in standards like API-521. Sizing and selection comes under API-520 part i and Installation API-520 Part II.

The Emerson PRV Engineering Handbook referenced earlier will give you an introduction into PRV's.

The topic of PRV's can be very involved and requires a high degree of understanding. These are instruments that protect life and property.

*** Per ISO-4126, the generic term 'Safety Valve' is used regardless of application or design ***

*** 'Pressure-relief Valve' is the equivalent ASME/API term ***

sandesh 65,

If company resources with relief sizing expertise is not available, I recommend professional training.

Good Luck,
