Colleagues, I need your help again.

Gas from new wells with higher H2S concentration is requiring injection of H2S scavenger (ethanolamine). Pipe is PE 3608 (HDPE)and service is Dry Gas, low pressure (< 100 psi) and low temp (< 80 F).

Before I get lectured, I have searched previous "threads" and different "chemical resitance tables" and only one source (Harrington plastics) lists effect of amine on PE. It's listed as "unsuitable". If this is the case, then I have to derate pipe according to API 15LE.

I've also contacted pipe manufacturer and they replied : "We do-not have any data on the effect of monoethanolaminein PE pipe."

any links to additional "Chemical resistance tables" that includes PE vs ethanolamine will be greatly appreciated it.

Page 8 talks about PE and PP liners for transfer hoses. May be worth a call to the 800 number on the back page.

They also have some info. on recommended gasket materials. The Parker O-ring handbook states (along with the above reference) that EPDM is a recommended seal for the stuff; but notes that standard viton-A elastomers are most definitely not ok...may be an issue if you have elastomer seals in the pipeline.

Ok, this reference also mentions triethanolamine (but does not directly mention mono- or di- ), as being satisfactory at 20 deg. C, but perhaps not at 60 C.

Be careful you don't confuse your chemical with references to ethyl amines, a different breed of cat.

Thanks btrueblood. Good technical info.
