All,
I have a 53 foot x 38 foot structure that will house very large 66" water pipes. This structure otherwise known as a valve pit will be an area to house electrically motorized operated valves. The structure will not require piles for its foundations but will have spread footings. There will be a lot of rebar and concrete.
My question is does this structure require grounding? If so what is the governing code that dictates that this structure shall be grounded?
These massive pipes will have electrically operated valves that will have the feeder cable grounded.
I have read NEC Art 250.32 Bldgs or structures supplied by a feeder(s) or branch circuit(s).
I believe that this article in the NEC tells me that this structure that I have described DOES require a grounding electrode. Please provide input as to whether or not my thinking is in line with this code reference.
Should I have a ground loop of 4/0 AWG bare cable around the valve pit structure with a few driven ground rods and periodically attaching to the rebar with grounding electrode?
Thanks in advance.
