I have a bridge replacement project where we need to remove and replace a fire stand pipe attached to the bridge structure that is being replaced. The standpipe will extend from the top of deck down into a tidal waterway. The bridge size or geometry itself does not fire a standpipe, it's mainly a source of water to the fire department as I understand the standpipe is used by the local fire company if needed due to a lack of hydrants in the area.

I’m looking for details, as the owner has no details to share, and also if there any standards to follow and if a design is required. The details will be reviewed by the fire company to ensure they are able to attach, but hasn’t provided any direction to what is required.

TIA for any information can be shared.

Here are some links to information on the use of static water sources.

Find out which connection the local fire department wants on the top end of the draft pipe. The lift should be as short as the bridge geometry allows. Tidal is usually salt water, consider corrosion resistance and marine growth in material selection and coatings.
