FEMAP TO PATRAN

I need more description on how to convert a FEMAP analysis model with Plates, bars and RBE's to a Patran user.

My user/customer wants a list of commands/clicks they would like to perform so they could easily open my FEMAP output and validate the results without any hiccups or any kind of work on their side .

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello!,
Patran is a pre- and postprocessor, not a solver, then if your customer runs Patran with MSC.Nastran and you run FEMAP with NX NASTRAN then simply send them the nastran input file generated in FEMAP and they will be able to import the full FE model in Patran.

Till I know PATARN is not able to open FEMAP binary database (*.modfem), then the only way to coomunicate both programs from FEMAP to PATRAN are the following options:

1.- In FEMAP go to "File > Export > Analysis Model > PATRAN" to write the Patarn neutral File (*.PAT)
2.- Or to export in FEMAP the nastran input file, go to "File > Export > Analysis > nastran Analysis set" to generate the *.nas.

Please note that both FEMAP & PATRAN are pre-processors for NASTRAN, then the best way to coomunicate both programs is sharing the nastran input deck (*.nas).

either method about should work. maybe also, export analysis model (.bdf file)

Thankyou all. Since I dont have patran lic. I cannot check if I am sending the right files to my customer, said that can my customer directly open *.pat file generated in femap and view the files or do they have to follow certain steps in patran to access the files.

I'm sure FeMap will export your model as a Patran neutral file or maybe as a Patran data file. whihc your customer should be able to open easily ... so long as you're both talking the same version of Patran (or your version is earlier than their's).

Dear Rhulmenon99,
Also you can configure FEMAP to work with MSC.NASTRAN solver using "File > Preferences > Interfaces > 0.. MSC/MD NASTRAN" and this way export your model to msc.nastran to make sure the best compatibility with msc.nastran solver.

The exported file can be renamed as *.dat, *.bdf, *.nas, etc.. is exactly the same ASCII file.

Also send them the FEMAP model exported as patran file (*.Pat).

I tried all the steps above and thanks a lot for all the help.
Closest to my success was the following :
Converted the file to *.BDF
Everything went well except the constraints got lost while importing the file into Patran.
Am I missing anything here. why are constraints getting lost in the conversion.
