My company is looking to expand Autocad2000 with mechanical desktop. We are also looking at FEA programs that work well with this format. Does anybody have any suggestions? In a perfect world we would like to model our products in the computer to save on our rapid prototyping.

Check out Cadre_Pro at Cadre_Analytic.com. Their product reads .dxf files for FEA analysis.

If you can find an Autodesk re-seller, they should be able to provide some information about Ansys Design Space, which works inside Mechanical Desktop. The package is neat and functional although limited in capability. You can model assemblies and run various problems from the same design window. Your re-seller should also be able to provide information on other programs that will work with Autodesk file formats.

We have been a longtime ALGOR user. The latest ALGOR release has an effective interface with ACAD Mechanical Desktop.<br>

Thanks for your help. Our reseller is pushing us to go to Ansys. Comparatively what are the differences between Ansys and Algor?
