Just wondering if a sketch can be extruded in a direction that is not perpendicular to the sketch plane, instead it is inclined at an angle to the sketch plane?

Thanks to all the readers

Yes it can. I think this was added to the 2005 release and I believe you can do this without using a sweep. Check out your options in the Extrusion command. You'll need to indicate the direction of the extrusion--probably with an external sketch line or something.

The sweep way of doing so would be to create your sweep path, then create your extrusion profile, and select the Keep Normal Constant option of the sweep.

Thanks Theophilus!! I am using SW03. So I guess that extra extrude feature is not available in that version, is it?

mkmech ... an alternative to the sweep is:-

1) Create a plane perpendicular to the direction you want to extrude along & on the side you want to extrude.
2) Start new sketch on that plane & convert the entities of the original sketch onto it.
3) Extrude the new sketch Up to surface & select the original sketch plane.
