Extending an Inclinometer on Rockfill

We are thinking of extending the inclinometer which is already sitting on rockfill. We want to extend it at the same time more rockfill is put on the slope (dam). Are there any precautions that I need to consider (such as haul trucks running over it, the type of material being put around the extended inclinometer etc). Can anyone direct me to a website too?
