ETABS Shear Wall Design w/ Singly Reinforced Walls

Hello,

Is there a way to analyze singly-reinforced walls in ETABS? The uniform reinforcing option shows two layers of reinforcement and the only thing that I could come up with is to do a section designer for each pier to achieve a one layer of reinforcement. As you can tell this is a very time-intensive approach and was wondering if there were any ways to go about this?

Thanks

You can cheat the system by modifying the rebar area size in the properties - or by using two smaller bars to represent a bigger bar at the requisite spacing.

Do keep in mind that ETABS assumes that all of the reinforcement is restrained and contributing in compression. This was a big issued for me in a project where I had reinforced masonry shear walls.

Thanks for your response @EZBuilding, Sorry, do you mean by selecting the pier and changing the rebar ratio in its property or changing the rebar area size in the section designer? I believe the latter would only be changing the "tie bar" not specifically the vertical reinforcement which I am looking at.

Define -> Section Properties -> Reinforcing Bar Sizes

You could use this and "halve" your rebar area. I don't think I used this extensively, so make sure you vet it.

When I did go through this I created section designer piers for the different conditions. Which once again - having the bars count as restrained for compression was my biggest hurdle.

Thank you for the clarification, I ran some dummy models as well and the differences of these piers are negligible, however, I am skeptical of applying this to an entire structure. Nonetheless, thanks for your input!
