I'm undertaking a project using biot theory to model the velocity of compressional waves through wood samples. However I'm having a hard time findig values for the elastic parameters such as bulk and shear moduli any help or data would be greatly appreciated.

cheers.

if you could send me the type of wood that you are looking for i have a good source on here at my desk which will list the properties that you might be looking for....for example:

American White Oak
Data is based on small, clear, air-dried samples unless specified.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Density, g/cc 0.68 0.68 g/cc
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
Tensile Strength, Ultimate, MPa 5.5 transverse. 798 psi
Flexural Modulus, GPa 12.4 12.28-12.4 GPa in bending; 0.105 GPa Modulus of rupture in bending. 1,798 ksi
Flexural Yield Strength, MPa 56.5 MPa bending stress at proportional limit. 8,195 psi

Hii jj0508,

Can you give me the name of the source (I suppose a book) you have. I am also dealing with physics of musical instruments. So that I also need that kind of a book.

Thanks a lot

Well there is a web page that might help you as well...it will be a lot easier than trying to find this book (seeing as its SO old I doubt ANYONE else will have a copy)..SO try (Hope that helps some)
