Good day All,

I want to know the effect of high heat radiation from flare on field instruments.

The intruments are installed locally at the flowstation within the facility. Due to increase in crude oil production, there's increment in gas production that flared. It was observed that the ambient temperature around the facility adjacent to the flare increase do goes high as 50-60 deg. C on a sunny day.

What is the impact of this high heat radiation on the instruments.

Thanks for your anticipated support.

Regards.

Accelerated life testing (reliability studies) uses elevated temperature to stress components.

Off the shelf pressure and temperature transmitters have pretty robust specs. The spec sheets on my desk has a ambient temperature rating to 85 Deg C (125 Deg F). (could vary slightly by brand).

Some years ago, I saw the effect of radiated heat in the breakdown of the large elastomer diaphragms on low pressure Dwyer gauge/switches. Those units exposed directly to the radiant baghouse heat failed in weeks, rather than years.

Sun shields are used to prevent solar radiation from overheating instruments. Can you use a heat shield to block direct radiation?

Thanks danw2.
I appreciate your suggestion.
As a step forward, I would need to get the temperature range of the field instruments.
