Dredging ponds/small lakes

I own property in Pennsylvania with a small pond covering 4-5 acres. Over the past 50 years sediment has filled in the pond, converting it into a marsh. Heavy equipment contractors have told me it would be impossible to use bulldozers or back-hoes to dredge, since they would mire themselves in the soft bottom. Can anyone suggest a means by which I could cost-effectively dredge the silt out of the pond?

Consider why it is a marsh now? Unless you change the cause you will have a marsh again in a few years.<br>

Consider how to enjoy a marsh. Would you fish in the pond, but really derive most of your enjoyment from watching the wildlife? Then nevermind about fishing and get into bird watching or cultivating colonies of endangered species or even encouraging migratory fowl!<br>

Look aroung the net for wetland conservation sites and you may find funding assistance also.
