Hello,

Who can get me a drawing wich explains the working of a "double tube sheet" (for ex.: integrated in Heat Exchangers build for petro chemical installations).

Kind regards,

JP

SOps,

A double tube sheet design is commonly used only where there is:

1) Extreme danger of tubeside leakage into the shellside

2) Very expensive tubeside fluid, and therefore potential loss of revenue

3) a miliary applicaton (seawater HX on a submarine, for example)

The double tubesheet design frequently includes some type of alarm-type leak detection system between the tube sheets.

Double tube sheets will virtually double the heat exchanger cost..... there must be a good reason for their need.

A text by a Mr. Gupta discusses these.....(its in my garage)

MJC,

Thanks for your reply...

The fluids we´re talking about are Natrium (Sodium) / Isoprene on one side, cooling water on the other.
So we don´t want any cooling water near Sodium...! (the tubes ar also Bi-metallic).

What i need to know is: When they use a double tube sheet , are there around the tubes secondary tubes.
If Yes: * Only between the "double" tube sheets.
* Or, over the full length of the Heat Exchanger.

Mvg.

Jeroen

Professor J.P Gupta's book has the drawing of double tubesheets.

You should try google ( Search phrase: "double tube sheet" (remember the "") and you will get some references. They agree with MJC.

There are also links to manuf.

SOps,

Try these links for more double tube sheet details and information..

(The wolverine primer is excellent for the beginner)

Double tube sheets have undergone a revival because of the new "ultrapure" requirements of the electronics chip manufacturing industry. They show up in ultrapure steam generators and condensers.
