Distance Between on isometric in draft

Hi,

I am trying to add some dimensions to an isometric view in a draft (Solid Edge v20). The Smart Dimension tool works fine.
But I also need to add some dimensions using Distance Between, and after many attempts and searching Help/Forums, I still can't work it out.

An example is shown in the attached graphic.

I have experimented with the different "Orientation" settings (H/V, 2 points, use Dimension Axis - the last option seeming most promising), but to no avail - I always get some strange scaled value based on an undesired projection (even after choosing a "Dimension Axis", although maybe I am not using this properly).

Could someone please advise how to get the true distance e.g. along a line parallel to one of the xyz-axes?

Many thanks, MT

You have to use Smart Dimension - distance between is not intended to work on iso views.
It works the same as in orthogonal views - just click the first element then the second and it will give the distance between them, even hole centres. You can also toggle through different positions for the dimension by pressing a key (cant remember which - could be TAB, ALT, CTRL or SHIFT)

Where would we be without sat-nav?

Hey Beachcomber,

many thanks for the useful tip - it works well.

I had always naively thought that Smart Dimension could only be applied to a single object (i.e. click once).

BTW: The shortcut for switching the parallel axis appears to be the "B" key (this discovered after pressing all the keys on the keyboard; "A" toggles between linear and angle measurement)

Regards, MT
