Where would I find the differential gear design parameters useful in calculating the side gear separating forces? I am looking for such values as 'theta,' 'alpha,' and Rg for use in the equation F = T x tan (theta) x sin (alpha) / Rg

If you have an interest in analytical evaluation of the actual separating forces, determining optimal conbinations of the tooth numbers for the side gear and the pinion based on these forces (to decrease maximum forces), experimental force evaluation, please contact me at vantsevich@ltu.edu.

As I reread my original post, I see why no one commented until now.

Let me restate. I need to obtain definition of terms and their values, along with relevant equations, suitable for calculating the side gear separating force as a function of applied torque, for a given gearset.

I am not attempting to design a gearset, but need to understand the separating force for any gearset I might run across (Ford, GM, Chrysler, etc.).

(i) You can obtain definition of terms and their values, along with relevant equations, suitable for calculating the side gear separating force as a function of applied torque, for a given gearset. You can obtain brandnew knowledge on the above that will give you ACTUAL values of the separating forces.

(ii) You will see that the total separating force that acts from four (two)pinions on one side gear strongly depends on the tooth numbers of the side gear and the pinion. With this method, you will understand the separating force for any gearset you might run across (Ford, GM, Chrysler, etc.).
