I am a recent college grad, and in my present job I am supposed to find out the best way to coat a 15" x 15" substrate with styrene butadiene rubber (SBR). Right now, we are spin-coating a solution of SBR in toluene, but in far smaller areas. Can spin coat work for larger areas like 12"x12" or larger? If not, what is the best way to coat large areas?

I've done spin coating on up to 8X8. For a uniform coating you'll need to soak the entire surface either prior to spin or at a low RPM. Expect edge beading on the out side. Beware your chuck is large enough to maintain hold on your piece. If you're using a suction chuck, make sure you find the center. If you're not using a recessed chuck then expect non-uniformity at the edges, especially at the corners where they cut through the air. Expect lots of waste of your fluid. Some coaters have reclamation systems.
