I need some help in designing a bi-directional clutch bearing. The chalange is to come up with a design which will be able to do the following:
1. act as a regular bearing with free rotation in clockwise and counterclock direction.
2. be able to run clockwise and lock counterclock wise. This can be done with a standard clutch bearing(needle bearing)
3. reverse the movement (run counterclockwise and lock clockwise)
4. lock completly.

If you know of any exsiting design please let me know.

A detent clutch is double acting, but you may not like the ratcheting noise that goes with it.

A fork shift mechanism may be able to switch functions like shifting gears in a stick shift transmission. It could be solenoid actuated.
