Anyone knows of sources in the web about designing a railroad track ? Unfortunately I do not have AREA manual handy. My Merritt's civil engineering handbook only has small section on railroad. AAR website did not have any technical info on railtrack. What are the normal grades and curves allowed for typical single track railroad, to be used for freight (delivery of construction materials). It is not a main line, but it is just a spur line (5-10 km long). would a 1.5% grade and maximum 10 degrees curve be adequate ?

Thanks for info

Sorry to answer my own question. For those who are looking for the same stuff, there are 2 technical manuals in USACE which are related to railroad.

I am still looking for guidelines for construction access road.
