dents on elliptical heads welds

We are welding two equal sections of one ellipsoidal head (Di 5700mm with thickness after forming 26mm), and the weld is exactly on the mid line of the head. The two pieces of the head were delivered with slight deviations in dimensions, but nothing serious. Now during welding, even though we took great care of the welding sequense, there is a dent (internally) of the weld. Does anyone know what is the allowable tolerance of such dents?
The only reference I found, is UG-81 (ASME BPVC Section VIII Div.1), but does this refer to the internal surface in general, or only the tolerance regarding the attachment to the shell? This dent is all over the length of the weld, and it appears at the head's skirt, knuckle and the rest of the curved surface of the head.
According to UG-81, the internal projection of the dent shall be less than 5/8%Di. In my case this is 35,6mm, which I think it is a lot...
Thank you in advance for your replies.

The thickness at the dent area cannot be less than the minimum thickness and the edges must be long taper grinded, but even then it can be weld repaired to the required thickness. Obviously, approved welding procedure, PWHT and NDT of repair. You also need the AI involvement and record of repair.
