Hi everyone,
In our Multiple Effect(backward feed) Caustic evaporation Unit,50 % Product Concentration is Calculated on Weight % basis using tube(caustic side) side pressure and temperatures.8 to 9 kg/cm2 saturated steam is used for heating. No density meter is used. Can anyone tell me How it is calculated.

Thanx.
Alwin

I don't know your exact setup; however, density can be calculated from a liquid occupying a known volume (which may be the case in a flooded standpipe) by measuring the pressure difference between the bottom of the stand pipe and the top, and measuring the temperature. If the top is pouring out to atmosphere then the bottom pressure is only needed. Flow needs to be sufficiently low compared to pipe diameter to eliminate contribution of pressure drop by friction losses.
