Does anyone have information on design loads, and other considerations, for data storage centers. Evidently there are different Tier Level ratings depending on the level of safety/security to meet the client's needs. Thanks

Anticipate heavy loads. Get layout and weights from end user and Use heavy loads. Compute weights. Do not forget to account for UPS since they can be serious loading. I would use 150 PSF as minimum and go from there. Add 2000 pound concentrated load. Also, insure he raised floor system, if any, is also capable of supporting the live loads.

One reference that I use, it states requires 150 PSF for Telephone exchange rooms and central computer. The reference is UFC 3-301-01 ( STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING).

Thanks for the replies. The thread posted did have information, so thanks for thinking of and posting it. More accurately the question I'm asking is if there any standards or guidelines published for external loads (wind, snow earthquake, impact, etc.) for data storage centers? Thanks again!
 
Same as any other building i would expect, the difference would be in the deflection and vibration criteria.
 
The amount of deflect will likely govern the design is how I'm seeing it also. Vibration is an important design consideration that needs to be investigated and addressed, and increasing the importance factor for certain components if required by the owner/design requirements. Thanks
 
There is a document Telecommunication Infrastructure Standard for Data Centers (TIA-942) by Telecommunication Industry Association which provides guidance on loadings. Basically, the more important the Data Centre the higher wind and earthquake load should be allowed for in the design. Same goes for live loads and loading from suspended services.
