Custom Property Macro

I am sure I have seen what I am looking for somewhere before on the net but for the life of me I can' find it. What I would like to do is assign a 'custom Property value to every part in an assembly. For example, I'd like to be able to change the job number of each part as it is used in a new job. I have searched the posts here and haven't quite found what I am looking for. Any help would be appreciated.
