Custom properties in inported files.

When you import a file from a different cad package, there are no custom properties assign to the file.
The problem with this is that when you place the file in the vault it will automatically assign an auto number
because the custom property "part number" is not in the file. Yes we can go in and add the properties but it will take time before adding to the vault. (20 total custom properties) I do have a program that will populate the properties, (propagator works great!) not all users have access to this file and I can not keep track on who imports what.

What I did try, in tools>options> default templates you can turn on to ask for a template to use. I can select that template "without a auto part number" all the custom properties are there but it is a empty part. (no imported geometry) I also created a "starter file" outside the vault and added it as a template location. This does not work.
Days later.....
I did find out that the .ctf files are not updated with the correct custom properties.

Does any one know how/when they get updated?
Where are they stored?

I removed my PC/templates from the Vault and all imports are fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks
Frank

Exported models only export Geometry and excludes all other data like Custom properties or if it was an assembly the mates would be ignored to. This is not a SW issue this is a problem with exporting CAD data for many years.

Using a Template with Customer property data already there, might get wiped out, because what you are pulling in is empty and it forces the empty data to overwrite the CP you have in there already.

I hope that helps, if not you might contact your VAR and pose this question see what kind of reply you get.
