creating border/title block template

I'm trying to create a template with a title block and border to import into new drawings but am not sure how to do this. Any advice would be much appreciated.

take the titleblock in an external part, move the geometrie to an extra reference set. Insert this tileplock.prt with view from part onto your newly created drawing sheets. ...

Hi uwam2ie,

you're actually one step ahead of me! I'm not sure how to create the titleblock in the first place - I've tried using the 'line point-point' feature in drafting mode but cant specify the distance of the lines from the edge of the sheet or the angle of the lines. Is there a specific drawing mode for generating titleblocks and borders and if so how do i access it?

from Drafting (sheet)-> View -> display sheet

Still confused...

once i'm in the 3d area of the drafting application how do i draw lines in plane. How do i then get them to appear on the sheet. also how do i fix the distances between lines?

What version are you running.

Depending on which it is you'll find that examples of how it is done are distributed with the system.

This is an often asked question and the back replies on the forum can be searched.

In NX-5 the file open command allows you to select the kind of part to open and for drawings some of the templates are built in at that level.

Otherwise in all recent versions search for *.pax files under the installation directories these are custom palettes some of which by their names you will recognise as templates for drawings.

Go into Preferences>Palettes and use "Open Palette File" to add in one or more of the ones you found so that you can at least see what they do. Later you can copy them and edit the .pax files using any text editor like wordpad and from there find the locations of some part files that you can use to build your own custom templates. It is fairly easy to reverse engineer this stuff and most people find that they can cope. There is a lot you can do with template drawings so the examples take a short cut around a very long explanation.

When I created our title blocks, I used a combination of curves (lines) and tabular notes. To place the outside border and locations of the tabular notes in the Drafting application drawing sheet, I turned on the snap to grid option.

This allowed me to accurately place the border lines on the drawing sheet and have true vertical and horizontal lines. This was done when we were using NX4.

I have a part file for each drawing sheet (B, C and D Sizes) we use. I have these drawing part files setup as master model drawing templates. I modified the .pax files to use the company title blocks.
