With reference to the previous thread, I know that Charted Australian Engineers can practise in New Zealand and do a PS1 can the same be in Australia?

I don't believe being chartered in Australia allows you to automatically sign PS1's in NZ, you still need to have NZ CPEng.

An Australian chartered engineer would still need to undergo some of the NZ assessment process as I understand it and have NZ specific experience to boot to cross credit fully to CPEng in NZ. (I believe you can cross credit to be a Chartered Member, which isn't the same as CPEng) I believe in the past you could cross credit them fully to CPEng, but I don't think this is the case anymore. I believe Australia has mutual recognition of NZ CPEng status, for example Link

It works one way (structural engineers at least) because NZ experience can be directly applicable to Australia, but in NZ earthquake design experience is required to operate as a NZ CPEng.

Agent666 I totally agree with you but I raised this because I was doing a Ps2 for a silo designed and issued Ps1 by Austrian engineer and when I called him and said he has done few times and never have any issues.
He used his Australian registration not sure it is a mistake here or up to the council to accept.

Ah I see. In this case I'd discuss directly with the council. Not sure where you are but some councils (Auckland for example) have registers of engineers who are approved authors for PS1 & PS2's.

May also pay to discuss with Engineering NZ, and see what they have to say. If they are not legally allowed to sign and you sign the Ps2, it might impact on your liability.

On the face of it, it seems very unusual to me. But like I said, back in the day the Australian registration was taken to be equivalent to NZ CPEng.

I'm assuming the review of the design is fine, in that the engineer is competent and its just a matter of legalities.

Looking into this a bit more, there appears to be legislative backing (Chartered Professional Engineers of New Zealand Act 2002) in New Zealand that isn't present nationally in Australia. I'm guessing this is what Agent666 means in terms of equivalency.

To complicate it, there's also the IntPE registration, of which both Au and NZ are a part of.

My expectation is though, without carrying out my own investigation, that AU CPEng by itself wouldn't be acceptable on a legislative basis, and that some registration in NZ would be required. Where that sits with registration on an IntPE register I don't know. If there's an equivalent to what is BPEQ in Queensland nationally in NZ I'd discuss with them, else Agent666's suggestion is worth pursuing.

I know in Australia there has been (outside of QLD) the consideration that CPEng counts for everything, and am aware of situations where the NT Building Practitioners Board has pointed out that CPEng is the minimum entry requirement but does not constitute registration with them.
