I'm a material handler for a electrical/mechanical contractor and I asked one of the the electical engineers I wanted to get his opinion on what direction I should go. He said PLC and CNC. In fact he said after a few courses I could find a job doing work in this field. Is this true? If so where do I start looking. Do I need a recomendation from the teacher. I would appeciate any info. Thank you

I'd recommend getting a degree in engineering or engineering technology (at least an AS - but stay away from the over-advertised tech scools seen on TV), or an electrical apprenticeship, rather than just taking a few courses in PLCs/CNC. A set of credentials will take you farther, as well as give you knowledge about the circuits that surround PLCs to make up a control system.
