coordinate system inversion

I have been modelling a surface meshed object in Patran 2005r2. I was rotating the part when I noticed the coordinate system (and the part) suddenly change from a left hand system to a right hand system. Somemore deft movements with the mouse and it inverted back. Why does this happen? I have screenshots of before and after if anyone is interested.
