Does Solidworks 2005 have something similar to a "Contact Set" in Inventor? It is regarding one gear driving another. I have tried the gear mate and, for some reason, I am just not getting it to work right. Any help would be appreciated.

Try Physical Dynamics in the Move Component Tool or you can select the Simulation tools and apply a rotary motor to one gear and have it turn the other. Gear mates are ok, but if you want to simulate true physical contacting bodies, the Physical Dynamics or Simulation tools are your better bet.

cstilesii ... The Gear Mate should work fine. Are you selecting rotatable diameters of the gears?

If you can post a printscreen image (faq559-1100) & explain what you are doing, we might be able to give more specific help.

Thanks for the replies. I left out that one of the gears was on a motor assembly. The shaft in the motor assembly that drives the gear was fixed, once I changed the shaft to float, everything went according to plan. This teaches me sometimes the solution is the simple one.

Thanks

Did you really mean "float"? The shaft should be restrained so that only the rotational DoF remains. If the shaft is truly "floating" (no restraints at all) you will probably experience problems sooner or later.

The shaft is mated concentric with the hole in the motor housing and coincidental with the back of the housing. There was also a coincident mate between two planes that I didn't need and had to delete. It doesn't appear to have any problems yet, just hope it stays that way. Thanks for the help, it is much appreciated.
