Concrete Interaction Diagrams

Hello all,

I just finished writing a design program to output PM curves for square or circular cross-sections with the option of square or circular voids in the center. Aside from the standard square sections in the PCI Handbook, does anybody know where I could obtain interaction diagrams from other programs or computations? I'd like to use them in validating my program's results. Either conventionally reinforced or prestressed would be helpful.

The spreadsheet attached will do an interaction diagram for a rectangular section with or without prestress and with a rectangular stress block or a parabolic-rectangular stress block (as well as elastic analysis, crack widths, time related strains etc). More details here:

It uses the Australian codes only at the moment, but the unfactored diagram should be very close to ACI.

Have you looked at xtract? It will give you P-M curves and will also do moment curvature and some other things. It was developed at Berkeley and used to go by the name ucfyber. It does quite a bit for section analysis. It will allow you to put holes in your section which it sounds like you want, it also handles non-linear material properties. You can get a 15 day free trial - enough to compare your software.

PCA column certainly does a good job. However, a license will run you $1000 or more, won't it? I don't know if they have a demo version or not.

The RISA-3D program has detail reports which also report the P-M interaction diagram (although not with as much detail and control as the PCA program). RISA will do this for circular or rectangular columns. It won't work for complex geometries or voids. But, if you're looking for share ware or a "free demo" program I'm not sure you're going to find much that will work better for your testing than the RISA-3D Demo.

I have tried to develop a spreadsheet with similar capabilities to the program that you're developing. I didn't get too far with the voids however. Can you share any information regarding the algorithms that you've used?

Will handle circular and square sections with voids, or any other symmetrical section.

It is also free and open source, and it uses a closed form solution so is pretty quick.
