Does anyone know what this message means and how to fix it?

"This component cannot be made visible. It is on an invisible layer."

I am trimming a part to a linked surface. The part is on layer one and the linked surface is on layer 81. The component "check mark" in the Assembly Navigator is grayed out even though the part is still displayed. I am trying to turn the check mark red. I am not sure what I did to cause this or is this supposed to happen?

Thanks,

Are you using reference sets? Check the component parts to be sure they are all in the set.

Check your layer settings. Are all layers selectable?

Try rt clicking on the component in the ANT, pick reference sets--> make sure it is set to entire part, or solid, or anything but "empty". If it is, then repeat for the next level up in the assembly (assuming this component is part of a subassembly).
