Cold Lime Softening versus Ion Exchange Softening

I am looking for a cost-effective secondary filtration system to remove Total Dissolved Solids and Hardness after the water has left the Micro-Filtration System (Microza Membrane Modules). I was given suggestions to explore the Cold Lime Softening process and Ion Exchange process.
