There was a discussion in our office between a seasoned drafter and a young engineer about the standard bolt gage on a W8x24. They both insisted that they had looked it up and that they were right. The older guy was looking in his 7th edition and the young engineer was referring to the black book.

Does anybody have a clue why they changed the usual gage of the W8x24 and W8x28 from 3 1/2" to 4"?
