Centrifuge

Hi,
What is the aim of a small vessel (with conic bottom) assembled beside of each conventional centrifuge ,on thick phase stream?(Deareator?)

Without any more details about the centrifuge application, I would have to guess that it is a thickener. Gravity settler for thick phase. But would expect to see this upstream of centrifuge rather than downstream so am unsure.
