The main purpose for using carrier water is to increase the flow velocity of chemical line. It helps to:

- avoid settlement in pipes (i.e during lime water feeding)
- increase flowability in pipes (i.e. during polymer feeding)
- reduce the time-lag between the dosing pump and dosing point
