Dear Experts

It was found on my site that stainless steel joints were welded without Backpurging. Can oxidation be detected by Radiography by using some special films.
The Joints does not have inspection access, what the best method to detect oxidation

Thanks

Yes, RT can be used to detect local oxidation (surging) at the weld root.

One caveat, sugaring can be detected if the groove weld is not too thick. I assume that the welds are not socket welds.

If groove welds and the welds were was made with the manual GTAW process, you should expect that sugaring has occurred which could be highly detrimental with regard to corrosion in the service environment.

You can easily check and jurge weld seam conditions with RT.
