Hi All,

We are preparing to perform a burst test in accordance with UG-101(m). Our inspector is insisting that UG-101(h) applies and that we must bring the vessel up in increments of 10% of the expected burst pressure and then reduce the pressure back to atmosphere prior to the next iteration. Regardless of this section being applicable or not, what effect, if any, would this this cycling have on the structural integrity and ultimately on the burst pressure? Intuitively, I would think that cycling it would make the vessel burst sooner since there would be a greater amount of strain hardening that could then lead to joints becoming brittle - similar to bending a paper clip. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks!
