Boiler fluctuating

Hello,

In our plant we have a system of two boilers that provide the heating needed for both process,and building heating. The operators have complained about the boiler having problems during fall and spring. During the spring-summer-fall the need for heating in the buididng decreases, but the boilers seem unable to assimilate this. It has lead to constant fluctuation ( on-off) operation that I'm afraind might damage the boiler. I don't have much experience dealing with boilers and I am looking for some orientation as to how approach this problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

Possible lay a boiler up during low steam demads, or have a look at your firing system, and maybe make some modifications which would enable a high and low fire. Sounds like your boilers have only one setting and provide to much heat in your low demand times.

Cycling on and off will shorten the boiler life. The purge cools the internals, you fire the boiler a while heating it up again, then shut it off again only to repeat the heating/cooling process.

Do you have to run both boilers, or can you run one and leave the second on standby?

You should be able to estimate the requirements for steam loads based upon past fuel consumption per day, month, etc.and predict the steam requirements.
Knowing the output of each boiler you will be abel to manage there operation so that you will know wheather to have both boilers operating or just one.
