bio-gas combustion

Burning bio-gas in boilers require a few mandatory safety systems like, block and bleed system, flame detectors, several interlocks to ensure gas cut-off in the event of low combustion air-pressure etc.
Who are the renowned manufacturers of such combustion systems and what are the international codes one has to adhere to from safety point of view?

Regarding bio-gas combustion in boilers, I suspect that the same standards apply, whether buring bio-gas or natural gas, where the biogas would, however, essntially be a "low quality" natural gas (high CO2 and possibly moisture content, likely with significant H2S, etc).

From a code and safety, and legal, point of view, your local boiler codes will rule. For example, the Alberta Boiler Safety Association here in my geographic jurisdiction of Alberta; their safety codes act, for example, refers to other codes, including Canadian Standards Assocation for Canadian jurisdictions, etc). I would start by referring to:

- National Fire Protection Office, NFPA 85B and 85D, 8501, etc
- ASME standards (eg: B31.1 for power piping, if applicable to your posting, B32.2 for fuel gas piping, B31.8 for gas distribution systems, BPVC for boiler pressure vessels, CSD-1 for control and safety devices for automatically fired boilers, etc)
- ISA standards may also be of interest. eg: ISA–77.41–1992 — Fossil Fuel Power Plant Boiler Combustion
Controls

Manufacturers can be found, for example, in Chemical Engineers Buyers Guide (at amongst others. Babcock and Wilcox come to mind, Foster Wheeler, etc who are boiler manufacturers, and ABB Automation, Rosemenount, Foxboro, etc, on the controls "only" side.

We are working on bio-gas fuel production processes and find this topic of interest, too. Hope this helps.
