I would like to talk to someone with indepth belt drive design experience. I am working on a 50hp 3600RPM drive design using Gates GT2 Polychain cog belt for a OEM application. One of the problems of the design that conserns me is alignment. Have you ever had to realign a machine after tensioning the belt? The book says to get within a quarter degree agularity and +/-.125" offset, which is fairly tight. I need tools and a process that only use a fraction of this tolerance window, are rugged, easy to use, and highly repeatable. What tools and methods have you found to be most effective for precision alignment of pulleys?

I have evaluated several laser tools including the one Gates recommends without being fully satisfied.
