I have a question about batteries and the amount of power consumed by charging them vs. their power output. Is their some kind of listing somewhere of battery characteristics to compare energy storage efficiency? Is there one that includes battery weight to results? I want to know about lead-acid, gel-packs, nicads, and other types of batteries.
Back on the farm years ago, the tractor would run for several hours a day. All the time the ammeter would show a 3 to 5 amp charge. The ammeter measured net current flow to or from the battery therefore all loads were covered by the generator. It showed this same rate whether or not the lights were on. This was a lead acid battery. How close to “fully charged” can you economically charge before encountering a similar case of diminishing returns when charging a battery?
Thanks dr. killroy
