ASTM C1580 - Percent Sulfate by Mass in Soil

Hello all,

Can someone help me with identifying acceptable alternative test methods in determining sulfate in soil per ACI 318? I have a project specifying this test method; however, we typically follow the Florida Method of test for sulfate testing.

I asked the structural engineer if I could follow a different test method. His response was that he is not opposed to it, but he can't find anything in ACI 318 specifically addressing it, so no. ASTM C1580 was quoted to me by a lab we occasionally use for $650 per sample. I really don't want to pay this as it is not in the budget.

I checked ACI 318-05, but couldn't find anything. I currently do not have the most recent edition. Any advice would be awesome!
