I'm researching disposable static mixers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently, I’m attempting to develop a static mixer that has an L/D (Length to Diameter) ratio that is less than existing designs while also providing a lower pressure drop. Are there any aerospace technologies that need to apply static mixing to them? Are there areas where motionless mixing might be applied that hasn’t yet?

ArgoMix... I know that You know exactly what You are asking; however Your question is extraordinarily vague.

Suggest Your re-read Your question and discover what element(s) are missing…. Like WHAT ARE YOU MIXING and are You pumping it or otherwise dispensing it?? Air into water, stired martini’s, frozen margarita’s, 2-part epoxy resins or sealant compounds, frozen 1-part sealant, polyester resin, resins and fillers, paint systems at the spray nozzle, etc, etc. Also suggest pointing to examples of current industry standard designs for whatever You are interested in improving bwithaerospace technologies.

NOTE. Is this a senior or post graduate project? Will these improvements become open-spource knowlege for industry over-all; or do You/UWM intend to patent these improvements for sale to industry?

I once used a static mixer to improve the frothiness of an automated cappucino dispenser (it mixed air/milk/steam). A drawback was the difficulty in cleaning it.

There are a couple aerospace static mixer applications that come to mind, which are sensitive to flow losses and L/D characteristics. There are the exhaust flow mixers used on turbofan aircraft engines. And there are the fuel/air mixing nozzles used in turbofan aircraft engine combustors.
