API 12F Monogram Cert Costs?

I know that a company is not required to be certified in order to manufacture & sell API12F tanks but would like some input from someone with experience with 12F certification.

I have heard that the cost of becoming a 12F certified company involves much more than an ASME "U" stamp cert and much more expensive.
