Amount of Soil to be placed in Microwave

I am inquiring about the maximum amount of soil to be dried up in microwave. According to ASTM D4643-08, the recommended amount is little (1000g for specific size).
Is it possible not to adhere to the recommended amounts specified in this ASTM standard.
